Presidents Letter September 11, 2002

The New York State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) World Trade Center Police Disaster Relief Fund was established as a program of the New York State Fraternal Order of Police Foundation.  The program was established to help ease the financial burden for the families of the law enforcement personnel who gave their lives on 9/11 and to provide financial assistance and other necessary services to other fellow law enforcement officers (and their family members) seriously injured during the rescue and recovery mission.  Please be assured that the money collected has and will continue to go towards these efforts.

As tragic as the attack on the World Trade Center was, the tremendous response from the citizens in all walks of life represents the very best of America.  On behalf of our grateful law enforcement officers and their families, thank you for caring enough to make a difference.

As of August 1, 2002 our WTC Police Disaster Relief Fund has concluded.  Please accept my deepest gratitude for your generous donation towards this Fund at the time of its exhistance.

The New York State Fraternal Order of Police Foundation will, however, continue with the following programs:

  • To provide families of fallen officers and other injured officers with direct financial assistance
  • To assist with educational assistance to officers’ families and others, based upon board approved criteria
  • To provide donations for humanitarian causes to various not-for-profit organizations
  • To provide literature and sponsor lectures on DWI
  • To provide other community based initiatives to assist America’s youth and senior citizens, while reminding the public of the tremendous services provided by police officers and other law enforcement personnel
  • To sponsor events to commemorate and recognize law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Sincerely,
Frank Ferreyra, President
New York State Fraternal Order of Police
