This May the New York State Fraternal Order of Police will be honoring 74 Law Enforcement Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the citizens of NYS. Every year we come together as a profession to remember our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice. Since 1791, more than 22,000 heroes, across this Nation, have selflessly laid down their lives in the Line of Duty. The NYS FOP Memorial Wall has enshrined upon it the names of more than 1,200 members of the NYS law enforcement community so that their names will forever be engrained in our hearts. In addition to memorializing the 6 Line of Duty losses we experienced this year and 16 Officers who have died in years past throughout the Empire State, we are humbly honored to report to you that we will also remember 52 of our brothers and sisters who have succumbed to 9-11 related illnesses. This year, our solemn ceremony will commemorate their loss and pay special tribute to their service. The tradition of honoring those who died in the Line of Duty will commence promptly at 11:00am on May 5th, at the 911 Empire State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, located at 911 Police Plaza, Hicksville, NY. I hope that you will be able to join me in honoring the fallen members of our profession.
